Pocessor Option Kit
I want to add a second processor to a ML350 G3 Server (Xeon 2.2 GHz).
Time ago when I did that to another (old) server, all I got in the kit was an overpriced processor.
What do I get in the kit ?
Why should I pay twice or more the price of an Intel boxed processor?
Has anybody added a non Compaq processor kit to a server ?
Thanks...

Re: Pocessor Option Kit
The option kit is a CPU & Heat Sink come together in one unit that's made specifically for the Proliant Server Line. Sometimes you need (or it comes with) a voltage regulator that plugs into the motherboard.
You'd probably void your warantee if you added non HP/Compaq parts to your server.

Re: Pocessor Option Kit
Most importantly the kit includes the PPM (Processor Power Module) matched for that processor. Make sure you shop around for the kits because prices can vary greatly from vendor to vendor. I've been using Chestnut Micro for new and retired server parts. Good luck.

Re: Pocessor Option Kit
I'll agree with all the guys - only use the compaq kit unless you don't need a warranty. It sounds like the kit you bought for your old server was from Compaq Spares - which normally carry a higher price since they are not in production any more.
