Poor linux support
Is there a policy at HP to provide up to dates rpms for RHEL5.5 in a timely manner?
Most if not all rpms provided on support pages are completely outdated and will only (at best) support RHEL5.5 base kernel ignoring all subsequent security fixes.
Each time a new kernel is released for security reasons forces me to call the support for an updated rpm for hpahcisr driver or cpq_cciss driver.
This is realy a shame for a large company like HP.
Example: latest cciss dirver available on support site: cpq_cciss-3.6.24-5.rhel5.x86_64.rpm
It only support kernel 2.6.18-194 while current official revision is 2.6.18-194.11.4.el5!!!

Re: Poor linux support
cciss (and hpsa) are open source drivers and part of the normal kernel tree. The distribution vendors generally have the latest code for inclusion in errata kernels. The only reason to use a cciss driver posted on the HP support site is a bug fix or the release of a new controller that doesn't align with a distribution vendors release.
hpahcisr is different. I haven't looked at it in some time, but it was a binary only driver. It will lag behind an errata kernel release as it must go through a QA test process against all of the released kernel versions which takes more time.

Re: Poor linux support
@Jimmy:
The latest version available (for kernel 2.6.18-*) on the opensource cciss web site is the 3.6.20. 3.6.24 source code which contains optimisations is unavailable!
if HP want's to officialy support a driver for redhat enterprise linux, they MUST follow the security fixes updates!
if they don't intend to, then they should not provide any rpm at all!
Note:
- the provided rpm states that version is 3.6.24-5
- sources provided in binary rpm is V3.6.22
- sources available on cciss.sourceforge.net web site is 3.6.20-20......
What a concistency!
