I recently bought a Compaq Porliant 3000 with Dual 450 Mhz (SL2U7). Can I upgrade the CPU's to for example 2 PIII-600 Mhz (SL3JM).
Planing to run RedHat based server on this server, I would appriciate if anyone drops me afew lines if there is anything I should think of before I start installing the server. ;-)
Thanx in advance for all ideas & suggestions.

Re: Porliant 3000 Dual PII-450 Mhz
Please be aware that from 500Mhz and above CPU's, the Processor Power Module also changes. The old Compaq spare part number (450Mhz)is 327660-001 and the new one is 329267-001. If you plan to replace both CPU's you will require the matching PPM's.
Please check your current PPM's. There will be a sticker on them stating "Use Compaq spare part number XXXXXX-XXX".
Please note these are Compaq SPARE PART numbers.
Hope this helps
Brian

Re: Porliant 3000 Dual PII-450 Mhz
The first version used PII-260 to PII-330 processors, each processor and its VRM was on its own board and these processor boards were plugged into the system board.
The second version has the CPU and VRM sockets right on the system board. This version will accommodate CPU-s from 400 to 650 MHz, but the VRM-s must be correctly matched to the CPU.

6/500 Pentium III 512K Processor Option Kit 401268-B21
6/450 Pentium II 512K Processor Option Kit 313618-B21
6/400 Pentium II 512K Processor Option Kit 313612-B21
6/350 Pentium II 512K Processor Option Kit 313611-B21
Note: To Upgrade 400-MHZ, 450-MHz, or 500-MHZ models to the 550-MHz or 600-MHz or when upgrading a 550-MHz to the 600-MHz model, installation of an additional Thermal Upgrade Option Kit (144003-B22) is required. Failure to install this kit when upgrading may cause damage to the server and will void the warranty.
Good luck!
