Power problems on an ML330

Hi

I have an ML330 which runs SBS 2003 the server has been up and running for months. I have taken the machine down for a scheduled shutdown and reboot. The server will now not power up correctly. The Server fans start up but continue to spin. The lights on the front show lights on the network, power, but not on the Discs.

Is there anything I am missing or could it be a hardware issue. The server runs a 2 SCSI controllers one for the discs which is a 651 raid controller and the other is an adaptec to run the backup device.

Please can someone help me as I am at the end of my whits

I have done what you ask, I have unplugged the machine from the UPS and powered it up using the power cable from the wall socket.

This did not work. Would the USB monitoring affect the system bootup, the APS UPS uses a USB cable to connect to the server for monitoring.

Re: Power problems on an ML330

If all cables are inplace. You do not hear or see anything on the screen, then there probably something wrong with your system board.

Contact HP Support. The probaly help you doing a disaster recovery by booting from the redundant rom on the board, if this not work, they will have to ship a support engineer. There will be some dipswithes that must be changed but if you have not done this before, you'd better let assist you by HP.

Greetzzz, please let me know.

Re: Power problems on an ML330

Hi Ben here again

Right the server is back up and running again now and it appears there was nothing I could do about it. The behaviour I was experiencing was that the Fans were spining at full speed and it was not reaching the post beep.

I have tried pulling all the daughter boards out and then booting up with just the memory and CPU. No luck, I reseated all boards and CPU No luck. In the end I just called the HP engineer (thank god for carepac's) and he replaced the motherboard.
