Predictive Failure on 3 out of 4 drives on ML350 G6
Hi All,
We've got an HP ML350 G6 which has had constant faulty drives reported on it since implementation - Nov 2010.
Up to now at least 5 different disks out of a total of 4x146Gb disks have failed.
That was between Nov 2010 and Aug 11.
In Aug - we replace the SystemBoard / Drive Bay / Array controller.
We've noticed early this week yet another disk failure - which was replaced the next day.
However, out of the 3 remaining disks all of them are showing Predictive Failure status.
Can this possibly happen or is it another glitch on the server? What can be done to troubleshoot? The server is in production and can be switched off for maintenance, but are there any risks with the server not starting again with 3 disks showing predicitive failures?
Thanks a lot for any replies.
LaSh

Re: Predictive Failure on 3 out of 4 drives on ML350 G6
I can confirm that the 146GB drives are failing quite often with these symptoms. There was a similar case with IBM SAS drives. They recommended a firmware update on thise drives. Of course this update has to be done BEFORE the drive fails :)
Maybe it helps to do an update on the drives when you get them new. (If there is a newer firmware available)
Or think about changing to another type of drive. 15k instead of 10k for example....

Hi,
Could you let us know what is the controller model, HDD model and the firmware installed.
If possible, please share the ADU report.
Thank ypu.
