ProLiant 1600 Hardware Malfunction Errors

We have a Proliant 1600 which has been working fine until recently. It restarts unexpectedly, promtps a "Hardware Malfunction contact hardware vendor for support **the system has halted**" error at Windows startup (Win2k Server), and also prompts an error that states "Parity Check System DIMM error" at various times as well.

No recent installations, upgrades, or changes to this machine have been made and it appears that the problems started out of the blue. Any thoughts, ideas, and suggestions are welomec and appreciated.

Re: ProLiant 1600 Hardware Malfunction Errors

it seems there is a problem in RAM on your system. it could be possible due to contact problems( due to dust /RAM loose) of RAM sticks. try to remove the RAM, clean it and reseat, or try to run the server with minimum RAM for Diagnositc purpose.

Re: ProLiant 1600 Hardware Malfunction Errors

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. I was running 1GB of RAM on the server. I removed all RAM and clened them and then I reduced it to 512 to see how it would run. It's been several hours now and no problems as of yet. All diagnostics look good so far so we'll see how it goes from here.

Thanks so much!

Re: ProLiant 1600 Hardware Malfunction Errors

Well, 32 hours later and no more memory-related error messages. However, when I came in this morning the server appeared to have crashed again as there was a black screen with a flashing cursor and the server was totally non responsive. I performed a cold restart and during the boot sequence a message appeared stated that Processor 2 had failed. The server booted fine and is still running however minus the services of one of the processors. Could the failure of the processor be attributed to the reduction of RAM from 1GB to 512MB?

Re: ProLiant 1600 Hardware Malfunction Errors

Hi there,

Memory/Parity error does not necessarily mean that there is a problem with the actual DIMMS ONLY, there is memory on the motherboard too.

Last I experienced a Windows 2000 Server crashing on a Proliant DL580 G2 with a Hardware Malfunction/Memory Parity error, HP actually ended up replacing the faulty motherboard.

Just something to keep at the back of your mind.

Hope this helps and don't forget to assign points:)
