ProLiant 1600 and maximum memory

I have a 1600 Proliant Server. I recently bought 4 128 Dimms of memory. We had 256 in it. It only allows me to add another 256 megs. Is there a bios or jumper setting some where to allow more memory, or is it real the maximum it will take.

Thanks, Cam

Re: ProLiant 1600 and maximum memory

Cam:

The max mem = 1GB

You can install 256MB DIMM's
so... 4 x 256 = 1GB

Re: ProLiant 1600 and maximum memory

When I put more than 512 megs of ram in my server and reboot, at POST it tell me 512 is the max. Is there a jumper setting or a BIOS setting to change?

Re: ProLiant 1600 and maximum memory

Cam:

From the day this server was sold, the bios supported 1GB of RAM.

Lets try a few tests to see if a bank or more is failed.

Rearrange the RAM around in the banks to see if the size changes. Try to install the RAM you purchased in replacement with the sticks that existed prior. You may have some "bad RAM" If the RAM works as expected, then you may have some defective DIMM slots on the board.
Enjoy!

Ok, I will try rearranging the ram and see what happens.

Re: ProLiant 1600 and maximum memory

It does not matter what order or what banks I put them in. When I reboot, I can see it count up the memory. It counts up to 740 megs but then says Maximum memory supported is 512. The memory is good. My processor is a 300Mhz. Maybe this model has a max of 512??

Re: ProLiant 1600 and maximum memory

Hey John.

I also have a Proliant 3000, with a 300 processor. Does it also have a 512 max?

Re: ProLiant 1600 and maximum memory

Are you sure it is a 300MHz processor?

At any rate, the PII model should have a max RAM = 4GB

Re: ProLiant 1600 and maximum memory

FYI
I used your original link for the 1600 and replaced the 1600 with 3000 and it brought up the specs. The 300 processor also has a 512 max. If I had the 333 processor it has a max of 3 gig. Go figure.
Thanks for your help.
