I have a couple of questions re: the on/stand-by button. Firstly, I was wondering why it (or mine at least) seems to tempermental? I sometimes have to press it on and off a few times, wiggle it a little etc to get it to come on.
Also, I was wondering, when I shut down the Fedora Core 4 installation, what exactly should happen? I mean the button isn't a momentary swtich so I guess the software can't actually shut the computer down, right? What actually happens is the screen goes a bit garbled, moves around and eventually stops. The computer doesn't turn off but it's not crashed either (Ctrl Alt Delete restart the server).

Solution
I have one proliant 3000 with older redhat installation, and it shuts down nicely. The problem might be with the kernel apm/acpi features, which are either enabled/disabled.
What comes to the power on, it really act like this. When you press the on button, it might take 10-15s to actually startup, this is normal.

Re: ProLiant 3000 On/Stand-by Button
Thanks, I didn't realise with the powerswitch - I'm not used to that!
I'll investigate the crash on shutdown further on a linux forum.
