ProLiant DL160 G5 - SATA disk size

Hello,

We are planning to buy an HP ProLiant DL160 G5. However the maximum SATA disk size sold by HP is 750 GB. What if I want to use 1.5 TB disks ?

The specifications of the HP Smart Array E200 controller say maximum volume is 6TB (6 x 1TB SATA 3.5" MDL HDD).

Is this an actual physical limitation or would it support 1 or 1.5 TB disks ? Or is there another solution to be able to use such disks (maybe use another controller) ?

Thank you for your help.
Best regards.

Re: ProLiant DL160 G5 - SATA disk size

Hi,

Thank you for your answer. The 1 TB disks are not listed in the specifications I was reading from here : http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/dl160g5_ss/index.html

It seems the specifications on these page aren't up to date !

I see that a SAS HBA or Array Controller is required for hot-plug MDL disks. Is it OK with default E200 controller ? And if I understand I'll have to order another backplane to have 4 hot-plug disks, right ?

Thank you very much.
Best regards.

Re: ProLiant DL160 G5 - SATA disk size

Sorry, I see the default controller has also changed in the new specifications. It's now HP SC40Ge instead of E200. But the question remains the same.

Thank you.
