ProLiant DL380 G7 - 3rd party HDD
Hi,
I have heard that using 3rd party hard drives in the ProLiant DL380 G7 will cause that the system will be not able to get the proper temperature of the HDD and therefore all fans will be spinning at max frequency. That would mean, that if I want the server to work properly I am obligated to use the HP disks only. Is it true?
Thanks for help.

Re: ProLiant DL380 G7 - 3rd party HDD
Hi,
Not sure about G7 , I have a G6 and i have mixed drives:
5 x 507127-B21 (300GB HP Branded)
3 x Seagate ST9300603SS
Besically they are the same thing , as the HP hdd example that i pointed above it's the seagate ST9300603SS rebranded. I bought the 3 seagate drives because of a much cheaper price and i must say that they are mixed in a raid1+0 array and no problems at all. Tho i'm uncertain about G7 .

Re: ProLiant DL380 G7 - 3rd party HDD
D3Vnul,
Are you certain ST9300603SS is a compatible alternative for 507127-B21?
I just received ST9300603SS and they are so much smaller than 507127-B21 description...a drive about 3"x2".
Is there documentation of compatibilty anywhere? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
