ProLiant GL380 G5 Problem

I have a ProLiant GL380 G5 server that freezes every once in a while. Has to be manually restated.
No usefull info in windows log files (no error messages).
Firmware updated with Maintenance CD v8.60
System management shows exclamation mark at:
1. Embedded HP NC373i Multifunction Gigabit Server Adapter #2 Port 2
(Enabled, no cable attached, not in use)
2. Embedded NEC98431
(Link status: Failed)

What could cause the problem???

Re: ProLiant GL380 G5 Problem

Yo!
IML shows only problem with network card that is not in use.
A/ Network Adapter Link Down (Slot 0; Port 2)
Beside this, there aro no errors in log files that could indicate what could cause the problem.

P.S. Your English is just fine

Re: ProLiant GL380 G5 Problem

Maybe a corrupt driver that causes the freeze up?
an you uninstall and reinstall the driver?
Those who say it can not be done, should not interrupt those who are doing it.

Re: ProLiant GL380 G5 Problem

Check you version of Storport.sys and upgrade it if necessary. This file has something to do with the way the NC373i HP Virtual bus device functions. After some searching I found this link to a newer Storport.sys file :

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957910

It'll probably ask yo to reboot once it's installed.

Then try upgrading the NIC software to the latest in Proliant Service Pack v8.30.

Cheers,

Since this is HotFix, not fully tested according to Microsoft, do you know when could we expect SP3 for WinServ2003?

I'll try to get approval to install this HotFix anyway.

Re: ProLiant GL380 G5 Problem

According to Microsoft they have no plan to release any further Service Packs for Windows Server 2003.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecycle/servicepacks.mspx

I have had to update Storport.sys before to be able to upgrade my NC373i Virtual Bus driver and then to be able to upgrade the NIC software as well.

The only way i have been able to update to PSP v8.30 was:

1) Upgrade NIC firmware
2) Upgrade Storport.sys and reboot.
3) Updated the to the latest NIC driver in PSP v8.30.

I hope this information may help you solve your issue.

Re: ProLiant GL380 G5 Problem

Check that the network driver on the 373i is
bxnd52x.sys HP 12/08/2008 4.5.4.0 (or later)

or it could be the "HP Insight NIC Agents" service, I would disable it, and see if it makes a difference.

Re: ProLiant GL380 G5 Problem

I've installed patch for Storport.sys and for over a week there was no server freeze.

If it hapends again, I hope I'll be able to see what's wrong.

Thanks Rob!!!
