ProLiant ML330 G3

This server was running raid1. In SCSI slot 1 it showed a bad drive so I reseated the HD and everything seems to be operating normally. However, when viewing the drive in System Management the drive isn't showing any sectors written. In Array Configuration Utility it does not detect any supported controllers. The SCSI controller is ASC-29160i which I can't find much information on reapplying the raid1... Anyone have some thoughts? I tried the F8 stuff but all I could do from boot was change the ID or enable/disable something... Not much help.

Re: ProLiant ML330 G3

Hi Joshua,

Did you try using ORCA? See this guide for more info:

http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01129756/c01129756.pdf

If you need more assistance let me know.

Re: ProLiant ML330 G3

I'm having trouble... How do I find ORCA?

From all the documentation I've read it says to press F8 (during bootup) which I've tried but there's really no options that I can use.

Isn't there a way to rebuild the RAID w/o having to reinstall the OS? This server has been running for a few years...

Re: ProLiant ML330 G3

See chapter 3 in the guide link I posted. F9 should get you into the RBSU. If the server was setup with SmartStart then you should be able to get to the utilities. If it wasn't then see page 49 in this manual:

Re: ProLiant ML330 G3

This is what I see when I press F8:

HP Ultra3 BIOS 3.02.3
Copyright 2003 Adaptec, Inc.
<< for configuration screen options!>>>

HP SCSI card(s) Found:
1. HP Ultra3 Single Channel at Slot 01 Port 1
Enter Choice(1,2...n)/Exit(x):

(I press 1.)

Configuration screen options
1. Multi Initiator Configuration
2. Tape-based One Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR)

(I press 1.)

HP Ultra3 Single... Current Configuratoin:
SCSI Card ID: 7
Reset SCSI Bus at IC Initialization: Enable

After this it only allows me to change the ID or change the initialization from enable to disable...

Re: ProLiant ML330 G3

Don't hit F8 there, wait until you see the *F9* prompt. Do you get an F9 prompt later in the POST sequence?

Re: ProLiant ML330 G3

Yes.

But there is no F8 selection later on...

F9 - ROM Based Setup Utility
F10 - System Maintenance
F12 - PXE Boot

Re: ProLiant ML330 G3

Hit F9 to get into RBSU and ORCA.

HTH.

If this information was helpful, points welcomed.

Re: ProLiant ML330 G3

I have hit F9 but I don't see anything about ORCA in there...

Am I missing something?

Re: ProLiant ML330 G3

If you are not sure how the server is configured, use the F10 key. Use the INSPECT feature in RBSU to see how your server is configured, the array s/b listed. Use the RBSU guide that I posted earlier for reference on page 39.

There should be an 'Array Configuration Info' tab.

Re: ProLiant ML330 G3

Also having same problem with my ASC-29160i card and ML330 G3...

I Get the F8 Multi Initiator Message and gives the same options (1, 2, exit) as HighDesert mentioned. And F8 does nothing when it is pressed during the time that the prompt to press F9, F10, or F11 is shown. Tried inspect feature in BIOS, but feature is missing. Attempted RAID setup with SmartStart, and the ACU reports unsupported controllers. Am I out of luck here? I've looked through every piece of documentation I could find, but no solution was there.

Thanks

derail-

ACU is only for Smart Array controllers. You'll need to use the RBSU as mentioned in this thread, follow the links above or start a new thread.
