ProLiant ML350 G6 Power Supply question

I've got a question regarding the 460 Watt power supply that comes standard. I've seen a lot of issues on the forums about issues with this power supply. Is it recommended to upgrade to the 750 Watt unit? I've got an older ML350 G3 that came with a 500 Watt power supply seven years ago and would think that newer severs would require more, not less power. I'm currently pricing a new ML350 G6 server with 6GB memory, 3-500GB SATA LFF drives, and the add-on 512MB Flash Backed Write Cache for the P410i/256MB Smart Array controller and I want to make sure I don't under power it. Thanks for any advice/help.

Re: ProLiant ML350 G6 Power Supply question

hi,

hi,

you could use this HP tool :

"HP eConfigure Solutions"

http://h30099.www3.hp.com/eGlue/eco/begin.do

==> ProLiant Servers ==> Configure ==>

select your product " ProLiant ML350 G6 "

==> and try to configure.

my personal opinion is that the powersupply type is depend on the CPU type (E / X / L ) number of disks and memmory modules.

check the qick spec :

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13241_na/13241_na.html

Power Sources:
Dual Common Slot Bay for Right Sized, Hot plug and Redundant Power options
HP 1200W CS HE Silver Power Supply (optional)
HP 750W CS HE Gold Power Supply (standard on some models)
HP 460W CS HE Gold Power Supply (standard on some models)

i think the standard 460 W PS should be enough, if you buy more powerfull this will be ok but more expensive.
