Problem during Firmware Updating

I recently bought a second hand DL360p Gen8 Server from a website similar to eBay (taobao to be precise). It has an ancient (I guess) firmware version, Ver. 1.05. I tried updating using Intelligent Provisioning but it keeps "please wait". I used a MicroServer Gen8 but I didn't encounter this situation during my usage. So what's wrong?

Re: Problem during Firmware Updating

Maybe install a OS first(for example Win2012) and then use hp Service Pack for ProLiant?

Re: Problem during Firmware Updating

Did you use the most current provisioning version 1.62b?

Hope this helps!

Nope, it's an obsolete version.

I just updated the iLO firmware to Ver. 2.4 using SPP

Web GUI says intelligent provisioning version N/A

Tried the IP update pack using the virtual driveoption on the iLO remote.
The installation progress jumps to 100% immediately but when I boot into the IP again, it's still that obsolete version.

So what should I do next?

Re: Problem during Firmware Updating

use IP version 1.62b. this is the latest and greatest for your gen8.

2.x is gen9.

Hope this helps!

Re: Problem during Firmware Updating

I used 1.62b to update.
Here are my steps of update attempts
1. You mount the ISO as a virtual drive on your PC
2. (I removed all HDDs attached) Mount the virtual drive using the virtual media option on the remote
3. Boot the server and wait for it to be done
4. Reboot and go to Intelligent Provisioning
(I failed to update in this way)

Re: Problem during Firmware Updating

This is for updating Intelligent Provisioning. Did this work?

For firmware you better boot SPP2016.04 and do an interactive session.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Problem during Firmware Updating

I successfully get iLO firmware updated to Version 2.40 using SPP.
But I'm stuck with a really ancient version of intelligent provisioning right now. The version was 1.0.5 or something?
Update IP by booting using the IP ISO doesn't work, progress jumps to 100% immediately but IP isn't actually updated.

Re: Problem during Firmware Updating

Strange, what does ILO show? (see example).

Consider to create an USB device (tool is inside the ISO in USB directory) and try.

Hope this helps!

Re: Problem during Firmware Updating

I ended up abandoning the noisy DP360p.
The server is actually for my interest group at school, and as a normal person living in an apartment, I don't have a separate room for the server.
It actually bothered my sleep when I tried to with it running.
I now get the group a second hand ML350p Gen8, firmware 2.30 IP 1.62 shipped.
So naturally, problem solved I guess.
:-p
As a conclusion:
For firmware, simply install OS first and use SPP. You may need a SMB share, as my system has USB working but doesn't read my portable HDD (Seagate 2TB Backup Plus), simply make a temporary one with your PC.
As for Intelligent Provisioning, I failed to update it, sadly.
