Problem installing DVD640i in ProLiant ML110 G2

I have a problem installing an HP DVD640i DVD writer into a ProLiant ML110 G2 running WindowsXP.

The physical installation seems OK, as I can see the drive (letter E) and Eject the tray from My Computer.

I cannot read any CDs placed in the drive.

I cannot use WinXP to Write files to the CD.

The HP web site for the DVD640i is quite good, but does not have a lot of detailed technical support information

HP phone support refers me to a "Lite-On" support phone number, where all the telephone keypad options refer me back to the HP web site !

Anyone have any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I'm not sure that your problem is the DVD as Windows XP isn't supported on any Proliant Servers. This may result in generic drivers for the various interfaces like IDE/USB/SCSI etc. I'm not saying that this is your problem but it doesn't help.

I have attached some specifications for the DVD640i which show that it certainly supported under XP and comes with a bundle of software apparently.

You may have some luck if you change the Transfer Mode to/from DMA/PIO in the advanced tab for the DVD drive in device manager.

I assume that a normal CD or CDRW if you have one is OK?
