Problem with connecting tape drive
Hi,
We have an Ultrium 448 tape drive on a new DL360G4, with the optional Ultra 320 Dual Channel SCSI card required.
When connected to a "working" server, the tape drive is detected as "Ultrium 448 Sequential tape Device" or something to that effect.
When connected to the server in question, it is detected as a "Ultriii% Sequential@ Tape device".
We tried a completely different style of drive, a Sony DDS4, and had a similar problem with it being misdetected. Naturally, the correct drivers do not install.
So we made a support call to HP, and first they replaced the tape drive. Same problem.
Further calls to HP, they informed us the SCSI card is not theirs and not supported, and washed their hands of the problem. According to this website:
http://www.hp.com/products1/storage/compatibility/tapebackup/ISS/detail/16-0029-0058.html
The "268351-B21 - Dual-Channel Ultra320 SCSI HBA" is recommended for this system, which is what we have.
So whilst management dukes it out between our supplier and HP support, can anybody advise on what may cause this problem, and how to correct it?

Re: Problem with connecting tape drive
Hi Joshua
Suggest following:
1. Change PCI slot location and check.
2. Install problem server SCSI card in another server , connect tape drive and test.
3. If above two steps show same error, card seems to be defective
Regards
Mahesh

Re: Problem with connecting tape drive
Definitely a SCSI card problem.
Now to convince someone to fix it..
