Problems after replacing a hot swap disk!

I replaced a hot swap disk in a DL380 G3 (36.4 GB 15K 320). I hotswapped it yesterday and all seemed fine, it started to rebuild. Today the rebuild has stopped, the hot spare has kicked in and the new disk has failed. The Activity and the Fault light is lit (1 and 3) and the online is dark (2). What could be the problem and what shall I do?

call HP for a DOA of the replacement disk.

The first disk you took out was that disk failed? If not the hot spare would have kicked in the moment you took it out. I think the replacement disk will then become the hot spare and on a hot spare are are no lights buring.

when you insert the new disk it rebuilds and the hot-spare is hot-spare again.

I agree that would be nice in some situations but if, for example, in an highly expandable server that has a 2 channels Array controller, you dispose disks for better performances, it would become an incubus... :-)

if the fault led is lit you have to call hp for a DOA and try to replace the disk again.

If it fails AGAIN, you'll probably have to replace the disks backplane.
Before this, you MUST (even if you call HP they'll tell ya) try with a FW upgrade of the controller and disks.

in that case i'll suggest you to do it offline, booting from the last FW MGMT CD.

I have contacted HP and I will get a new one.
It is like Diego says, when I removed the failed disk it first started the hot spare, but when I inserted the replacement disk to the slot it switched and started to do a rebuild to the new disk instead of the hot-spare. I didn't stay to watch the whole procedure :-) but I guessed that the hot-spare would become a hot-spare again.

Thanks for the advice what i should do if it fails again, but I hope the backplane isn't broken.
