Problems installing Windows 2000 Advanced Server on ProLiant DL585
I have a ProLiant DL585 with 4 Opteron CPUs and 8Gb of memory. I want to install Windows 2000 Advanced Server on it.
I have booted the DL585 from a SmartStart 7.20 (and also 7.30) CD, and selected Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Eventually I am prompted to install the Windows 2000 CD. After a few seconds of copying files from the Windows 2000 CD, the CD is ejected, and the system reboots. The DL585 then displays something like:
Bad command or filename
C:>
I installed Windows 2000 Avd Svr on a ProLiant DL580 usingthe same SmartStart 7.20 CD, and that seemed to spend longer copying files from the Windows 2000 CD than the DL585 did.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions on how to install Windows 2000 Adv Svr onto my DL585.
Thanks,
John

Re: Problems installing Windows 2000 Advanced Server on ProLiant DL585
not sure if this helps any, but have you tried doing the install directly from the Windows 2000 CD, and then apply the Product Support Pack (PSP)? I'm not sure why you are having this problem, but that might be a workaround.
Thanks,
Doug

Verify System ROM
If possibly reduce Memory, use only at Board 2 2GB

Try manual Install with F6 option

Re: Problems installing Windows 2000 Advanced Server on ProLiant DL585
Sorted now.
The problem was that I had different CDs for Windows 2000 Server and Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Actually, the latter CD contained mulitple versions of Windows 2000: Advanced Server, Server & Professional, in sub-directories under \ENGLISH\WIN2000. What I did was to burn the \ENGLISH\WIN2000\ADV_SERV directory tree onto a new CD, so that at the top level the new CD had a SETUP.EXE, and an \I386 directory, etc., which is what the first Windows 2000 Server CD had. Then after re-running SmartStart, the new Windows 2000 Advanced Server CD installed OK.
So I guess that SmartStart expects the Windows CD to be in a specific format.
Thanks,
John
