Problems with Fibre channel adapters

We have a Proliant DL 580 with 2 Fibre channel host adapters installed.
Windows 2k server reports the two cards (which are identical) as different items, LP6000 and LP8000. This is before any fibre cables are attached. Why is this?

Both adapters were bought to be identical and have the same part and assembly Numbers (Part No - 176804-002). There are only slight differences in the serial numbers of the cards so you would expect them to be reported as the same item by Win 2k.

We have succesfully updated the drivers on the LP8000 to KGPA....... but the LP6000 refuses to update the version from 5.0.2183.1

We have performed a fresh install of the OS and even tried installing the card in another server (same spec), but to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Problems with Fibre channel adapters

Comapq and all HBA fibre channel cards are all different and can never be the same as they have there own unique identifier in the www id address, this is specific to all hba cards so when linked into a switch/ hub etc then it can enable you to configure ports etc in the correct way, especially when sharing storage between more than one operating system i.e Novell and Microsoft
