Processor Upgrade
To revive our old Proliant 1500 I tried adding a second P166 to the system with the following problems:
- The system BIOS reports '178 - Processor configuration invalid' on startup.
- Netware 4 fails to load SMP.NLM:
SV1X:load smp
Loading module SMP.NLM
NetWare SMP
Version 1.31 March 20, 1997
(C) Copyright 1996, 1997 Novell, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
SERVER-4.11-1586: Loader cannot find public symbol: DoRealModeHalt
SMP.NLM is using 10 outdated API calls
You should upgrade to a newer module when it becomes available.
SERVER-4.11-1548: Load file referenced undefined public variable.
Module SMP.NLM NOT loaded
CPQSMP.NLM 2.22 (05/22/98) is installed and loaded.
Does this indicate a hardware problem? How can I check if the 2nd CPU is working properly? I'm planning to put NT4 on this machine, but I want to check if DualCPU works beforehand.
Configuration:
System board: CPQ0811, board rev: D ver 3
FlexSMP Dual Processor Board ID: CPQ92A4
Both CPUs are P166 Family 5 Model 2 Stepping C but markings are different: Original 1st CPU is SY037/VSU, 2nd CPU is SY022/SSS.
The VSU marking of the original CPU indicates a non DualSMP-capable CPU - is this a problem or does the FlexSMP board generate a MultiSMP environment (which the CPU would be compatible with)?
Any help would be appreciated!
Nils

Re: Processor Upgrade
small update: I reran Configuration Utility with 'auto-configure' this time and the BIOS error went away.
Does this mean SMP is working?

Re: Processor Upgrade
It seems it was a Netware issue. SP8a didn't upgrade SERVER.EXE so that the DoRealModeHalt function was missing. Running LSWAP.EXE in DOS did the trick.
