Prolianr 1600/266 Dual Processor Upgrade
Hello -
I have two Proliant 1600/266 towers that I wanted to combine to one system with dual processors. What do I need to do to make one of the towers dual processor capable?
I read talk of a processor option kit but do not know what exactly it is or were to find one.
Thank you for your time and help -

Re: Prolianr 1600/266 Dual Processor Upgrade
I recently did exactly this with 2 Proliant 1600/450 boxes.
On Server 1 (to be retired):
Remove the Processor+Heat Sink (I used a pair of pliers on the heat sink to extract mine)
Remove the VRM (Voltage Regulator Module) - located on the same card at right angles to the Processor.
On Server 2 (to become Dual):
Change the Computer driver in Device Manager from "Simple PC" to "MPS Multiprocessor PC"
Shut Down the server
Install the Second processor and VRM on the sane card as the existing
Power up
Press F10 for the SCU. Press ctrl-A for "advanced" config, change the APIC mode to "Full Table"
Check in Task Manager - Performance for 2 CPU windows.

Re: Prolianr 1600/266 Dual Processor Upgrade
Thank you for your reply -
However it appears that your 450 is a little different than the 266. I do not have a place for a second processor on the same card. The processor is on a slot type board with the VRM. the server has a place for a second processor and currently has a termination board in the slot. However when I install the second processor the server does not power up.
Any further help would be much appreciated

Re: Prolianr 1600/266 Dual Processor Upgrade
Yes, it does look a little different, although PII.
Have you verified the second processor elsewhere?
Can you try it in place of the first one?
Are both processors exactly the same?
Is there a "stepping" difference?
