Proliant 1600 Dual Processors

Hi all,

I have a Proliant 1600 for which i have purchased 2 * 450MHZ processors and VRM's.

I have installed one of them on my system but it still only reads as 300MHZ (OLD). Can some one please tell me which switches i need to set to make it see my new processors.

Main Board is :- 149089-001

Thanks in advance

This information is found in the maintenance guide

Processor Speed
(Bus at 100 MHz) 1 2 3 4
300 ON ON OFF ON
350 ON ON OFF OFF
400 ON OFF ON ON
450 ON OFF ON OFF
500 ON OFF OFF ON
ThereтАЩs your problem!!! This thing is set to EVIL!

Re: Proliant 1600 Dual Processors

hmmm....does it hang on post and if so at what point.

Try this
- Clear your NVRAM
- Put just one of the new processors and see if it picks up on post

Re: Proliant 1600 Dual Processors

Well at the moment i have the server running on one processor but it is only being reported at 300 MHz even hough i know it is a 450MHz.

When i set the switches on sw1 to on off on off the system will not boot looks like there is no power going through the server at all.

Re: Proliant 1600 Dual Processors

Looks like the boards for the two processors are different. the 300 uses EDO ram but the 400 takes SDRAM so the boards are different

Re: Proliant 1600 Dual Processors

So there is no upgrade option for my server unless i buy a new processor cage??

Re: Proliant 1600 Dual Processors

looks like that....you will need to find out if you will need anything else changed if you upgrade the board..for one, you will need SDRAM.

Re: Proliant 1600 Dual Processors

Thanks for the replies m8.

I have managed to borrow a newer cage to test teh processors in. All i need now is some SDRAM.
