SolutionYes this server is a dual CPU system. You do need the same speed CPU. I have seen CPU mixing between 733 & 800 but not between 500 & 600. Please do update the system bios before you do any upgrades. There, in that case I would be using same stepping/speed CPU. Here is the right part no which you would need to order since the kit does include the Processor Power Module as well.
6/500 Pentium III 512K Processor Option Kit 401268-B21**
NOTE**: Note 1: To Upgrade 400-MHZ, 450-MHz, or 500-MHZ models to the 550-MHz or 600-MHz or when upgrading a 550-MHz to the 600-MHz model, installation of an additional Thermal Upgrade Option Kit (144003-B22) is required. Failure to install this kit when upgrading may cause damage to the server and will void the warranty.
Regards,

Re: Proliant 1600 P500 (Dual CPU)
One more question for Sunil Jerath. My Computer System Bios is P08 (11/08/2000) would this be the most recent version for the Proliant 1600.
Thanks Again.

Re: Proliant 1600 P500 (Dual CPU)
As I'm impatient, I downloaded the drivers from http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/7_1126.html
I've just upgraded my PII 450 to a dual processor.
I changed the "Standard PC" to an "MPS Multiprocessor PC" and then selected in the SCU (BIOS) "Full Table (Mapped)" for APIC. If you need any more info I can help.
In response to your Q to Sunil, yes, you have the latest BIOS, even though the file to download is later (because it's been packaged by HP, I suspect).

Re: Proliant 1600 P500 (Dual CPU)
SmartStart 6.0 and above are for the new G2/G3 servers with ROM based setup utility (RBSU) which no longer need (or use) a system partition.
