Proliant 1600 Ultra2 / Ultra3 Hard Drives

We have a Proliant 1600 PIII/550 and it has 3 Ultra2 hot plug 18gb 10k hard drives. I want to know if I can put a Ultra3 18gb 10k hard drive in there to expand my raid. (I'm willing keep the Ultra2 performance...) Just couldn't find compatibility information...

Thanks.

You will have no problems mixing Ultra2 and Ultra3 drives together. The RAID controller cannot tell the difference and it will only run as fast as your slowest connection.

Dear Alan,

You should be able to do this quite easily, but look out for RAID Controller channel/port limitations and hard drive backplane cage/cabling limitations as well.

Hope this helps,
