I have a Proliant 1600 Dual P II 500 processors which I would like to install some newly aquired HD in. These drives are SCSI 3 9.0 gig and I was wondering if they are compatable with this model of server. I also have an external storage array that I would also like to install these drives in. Which RAID controller card or cards are compatable for this purpose. Thanks very much and any assistance is much appreciated.

Re: Proliant 1600 & SCSI 3
Hello Richard,
here is a quickspec for your server.
Look there for the compatible hardware under the proper category.

Solution
The drives should be completely backward compatible to your older SCSI. Depending on what is in your 1600, Ultra2 is probably the controller, 80 Mb/sec. The new drives you say are SCSI 3, so Ultra160 or 320 and can replace the old disks with no problems.

Re: Proliant 1600 & SCSI 3
Thanks for the quick replies. So if I was to install a Smart Array 3200 card that would be ok?, or how about a Smart Array 221, and do these cards have 68 pin external connectors. Thanks
Richard
