Proliant 1600 - splitting the backplane question

Hello:

I have a Proliant 1600 where I want to split the backplane for the hot swap drives like so:

2 drive slots = mirrored OS drives,

and

4 drive slots = RAID array.

Anyone have an idea how to do this and what materials are needed?

Thanks!

/Matt

Re: Proliant 1600 - splitting the backplane question

Hi Matt,

you cannot split the drive cage over 2 SCSI channels, but you can have all disks on one channel and configure them the way you want using Array Configuration Utility (ACU). All you need is an appropriate Smart Array controller and SmartStart CD 5.5.

Re: Proliant 1600 - splitting the backplane question

Matt:

Does your server have the split backplane drive cage? If so, you will need two point to point SCSI cables:

You will also need a SmartArray Controller with two internal channels or two SmartArray Controllers with one internal channel.

If you do not have the split backplane, then your SmartArray controller wil handle this with one channel.
Enjoy!
