Re: Proliant 1600 won't boot SmartStart 5.5 CD again or Diskette
Can you be a bit more specific ?
Are you getting any error messages ?
If I recall correctly, the 1600 didn't come with a RAID controller as standard. Do you have one installed ?
Regards,
Rob

Re: Proliant 1600 won't boot SmartStart 5.5 CD again or Diskette
it seems the more pressing issue at this point is getting it to boot from cd again. i just get pf1 to continue or f10 for spu, but either way i end up at non-system disk...
again thx so much.

Re: Proliant 1600 won't boot SmartStart 5.5 CD again or Diskette
You may have to specify the internal controller as "boot-controller" (only one scsi-controller can be assigned as such).
This is a bios-setting.
As for booting from the mirror :
- power off the system
- power on
- the array-controller should signal a mismatch between the raid-config in NVRAM and the config on the disks.
accept this mirror as "reduced" and you should be able to boot.

Re: Proliant 1600 won't boot SmartStart 5.5 CD again or Diskette
i'd be shocked to have the cd break the one boot after the harddisk broke, but that's starting to look like the issue unless it's easy to change the bios boot config without knowing it.
again thx.

Re: Proliant 1600 won't boot SmartStart 5.5 CD again or Diskette
The Proliant 1600 uses a standard IDE CD rom drive with the jumper set to Cable Select (CS) rather than Master or Slave.
It's probably and older 8 speed CD but you could try one from a desktop PC if you have a spare.
The default BIOS boot order settings on G1 systems like the Proliant 1600 is for A:, CD, C: so it should boot from CD because you would have to have changed this order deliberately, which is unlikely.
First try removing the Smart Array 3200 from its PCI slot to see if the CD will then boot. If it does then it may indicate a problem with the 3200 controller.
The message about no devices found comes after the Smart Array controller has initialised and simply indicates that you don't have anything attached to either of the embedded SCSI ports. This isn't a fault - just informative.
Try without the Smart Array 3200 and/or replacing the CD ROM drive and post your results.
I hope this helps.
Brian
