Proliant 1600 wont reboot from Gentoo linux

When i use the proper way to close down linux and reboot the machine does not start agen. It just doesent do anything why is that? If i use Ctrl+Alt+Delete it reboots just fine.

This puzzels me a bit.

What command switches are you using for the shutdown?
Enjoy!

Jens:

Try " shutdown -r now "

You need to tell the O/S to Init to runlevel 6
Enjoy!

Re: Proliant 1600 wont reboot from Gentoo linux

Calling shutdown -r now results in the following:

INIT: no more processes left in this runlevel.

But it doesnt boot.

Hmmm... I am not as familiar with Gentoo as I would like to be,..
Do a man on shutdown, it could be that the switch is different than what I thought.
Enjoy!

Re: Proliant 1600 wont reboot from Gentoo linux

Btw There would'nt be anyone in here who knows why during boot with lilo with a 2.6 kernel i can adress the /dev/ida/c0d0p2 and after the devfs manager is loaded i sudently cant because all the device notes have now been rearranged so that /dev/ida/c0d0p2 is now /dev/ida/c0d0/part2.

How do i fix this?

Re: Proliant 1600 wont reboot from Gentoo linux

My simple answer would be to not use devfs and try to map your devices static

Does Gentoo "require" the use of devfs? Something that requires it be dynamic?
Enjoy!

I am arfaid that gentoo does require the use of devfs but i dont know why the loading of the devfs manager of the 2.6 kernel moves everything around.
