Proliant 1600r (450mhz) memory upgrade issue

I have a Proliant 1600r (450) with 2 x 64mb DIMMS in it. I have just purchased 2 new 256mb DIMMS for it and tried to install with the others, but when Windows boots up, I get a Hardware Malfunction - Memory Parity Error. If I remove the old DIMMS, the server won't boot at all. What am I missing? Is there a specific sequence to install the DIMMS?

Hi Tom,
Make sure you are running 100MHZ SDRAM.
Also these servers can be fussy when not using Compaq branded memory.

Definately using PC100 ECC REG SDRAM. Not Compaq branded but this shouldn't really matter. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Proliant 1600r (450mhz) memory upgrade issue

Hi Tom,
That's the thing, 3rd party memory does have a huge impact on these servers. Very specific on what will work.
The only other thing that comes to mind is to make sure the bios is up to the latest.
Not much else you can do.
