Proliant 1600r 6/266 M1

Server has been down for approx. three months. When restarting, it reports data recovery and to press F1 to start auto recovery or F2 to continue. Pressed F1, appeared to start recovery, drive lights flashing and then has statement:

CPQDA386: The CPQ Smart-2 Slot 1 Dsk1 DDG devies is queued to begin rebuilding data on the new drive replacing the previously failed drive. Left for 18 hours and never rebuilted data. Replaced the drive with another and had the same statement. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. The server has Novell Netware 4.11 OS. Thanks Earl

Sounds like the data is corrupted and/or there is another failed drive.

Hi Earl,

Just a short note to share :-

You can use the ADU utility to test the controller & the HDDs. It's non-destructive & will generate a report.zip which contain report.txt. Open up & review it as it will provide info such as which drive is having problem.
Here's the link : http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/23024.html

You can also use the DAAD utility that comes with the older version of SmartStart CD such as v5.x & v4.x, ship along with your server.

I believe you are having more than just 1 HDD facing problems like bad sectors or time-outs. This could be preventing the logical drive from rebuilding. Remember, the DDG (also known as RAID-5) only tolerate 1 disk failure.

Cheers!
