Proliant 2500 DLT III Tape Failure

The internal 15/30gb DLT III tape drive blinks all 3 lights with no tape in the drive. I cannot open the door to the drive -- system appears to think a tape is in the drive.

I have cold booted the server and it returns to the same state. Any troubleshooting ideas out there?
