Proliant 3000 and Windows 2000

Since upgrading my 3k to w2k, it doesn't soft reboot. I am forced to do a power off/on to get the system back on line, which really makes remote admin hard.

It is a 3k with dual 450's, 4 GB RAM, support paq 6.2.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Which firmware revision is on the server?

Re: Proliant 3000 and Windows 2000

I'd recommend searching for a driver named cdralw2k.sys and rename this to something like cdralw2k.old. This driver is installed with Windows Media Player to use for cd burning.

The file is not on the system.

Any other suggestions?

Re: Proliant 3000 and Windows 2000

I have having the same problem however on a Proliant 7000. I cannot reboot from Windows 2000 by selecting 'restart.' I must completely shutdown the server in order to get it to restart. Also occassionally the server will just power off. I can't seem to find anything in logs. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Proliant 3000 and Windows 2000

I am having the same restart problem with two Proliant 3000s.

- Dual 333 (bios E39)
- P3 500 (bios P09)

I can't shutdown either. When I attempt restart or shutdown from Windows 2000 server (fully updated), both boxes go blank screen with a flashing cursor. They require a full hands-on power cycle.

I also tried removing the cdral2k.sys driver with no effect.

Re: Proliant 3000 and Windows 2000

I'm having a similar experience but with Workstations. We have four HP Vectra's VL600 DT's that will no longer shut down with Windows 2000 professional. This occurs with machines on Serivce Packs 2,3 and 4. Three of the workstations started doing this within the last month or so. No changes were made to the workstations prior to the problem. Attempts to update the BIOS and to eliminate running tasks were unsuccessful.
