Proliant 3000 and Xeon CPUs

Hi there

Currently I'm bidding on two Proliant 3000 machines on eBAy. One of them has two PII/300 MHz CPUs, the other has two PII/333 MHz CPUs.
The question is, will it be possible to upgrade those macheines to PIII/550 MHz Xeon CPUs? I have an option for four original Compqaq PIII/Xeons including the necessary VRMs as well.

No. You can go to dual PIII/550 (even 600 or 650) processors by replacing the system board but Xeon is not an option.

Frank:

Dou you mean I have to replace the mainboard to switch from a PII to a PIII?

Hello Sven,
Here is the info on PL3000 XEON upgrade.

If you do decide to upgrade to XEON, you surely would have to change basically most of the hardware if not all.
