Proliant 3000 boot failure (Newbie Questioons)

I´ve got a Proliant 3000 (2xXeon 550, 1 GB Ram, 6+9.1 GB HD, SamrtArray 3200).

When i powered the server on everythings seems to be fine, but he stops with the message that are nor SCSI-Devices were found (but the HDD´s come up with green online LED for a short time) and display the Messages: "press F1" oder "press F10".

When I press F10 he first access shortly a HDD and then tries to read a floppy but then a message that no Os were found appears. I´ve brought the Server via ebay and only a "SmartStart Profile Diskette" was shipped (what´s that)?

I think that the Partition were the SmartStart util ist on the HDD ist lost so he want´s to read it from floppy. I tried a Diskette-Set with SmartStart I downloaded but it doesn´t work. I also tried a SmartStart CD I burned. Nothing..

The server seems not trying to access the CD-Rom at boot time.
What can I do to get the server booting from SmartStart CD or Floppy? The ROM Version is from Dezember 1999 the Server displays at boot

Re: Proliant 3000 boot failure (Newbie Questioons)

Robert:

First thing to do is to do a system erase on the server to remove any left over configurations from its previous life. To do this, download and create the following diskette:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/17918.html

Then you should be able to use the SmartStart CD you have so long as it is version 5.50 or earlier. You cannot use any SmartStart 6.0 or later versions on this server. If you need one, you can order it from here:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/subscription/ssphone.html
Be sure to get SmartStart 5.50 or this will not work. This SmartStart CD has all the tools and such that you will need to correctly configure and setup your server. (Soup to nuts)

Once you get the system configured with the CD, you can install your O/S of choice. You will need to bookmark this URL for your drivers and software to use on the server:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/family/model/1112.html?lang=en&cc=us

Welcome to the Forums and be sure to ask any question of the server here... you are in the right place.

G'luck! -john
Enjoy!

Re: Proliant 3000 boot failure (Newbie Questioons)

Thank you for your replay. I allready have maked the 4 diskettes you mentioned above but the system still do not load the floppy. In the meantime i tried an other floppy drive, but still the same problem. The server access for a moment to the floppy but not load anything from it. Then the same message appear "No os found".

What could be the problem!? I cry.....

Ohh, sorry, I´ m wrong. I didn´t test the erase floppy, but did now. Worked. Now i download the 5.5 SS CD-Image and place a test.

SmartStart 5.5 is realy the latest usable Version? I want to install Novell Netware 6.5. Is there a chance? Is it possible or necessary to perform any firmware updates of the Controller and so o

Re: Proliant 3000 boot failure (Newbie Questioons)

Robert:

Take a read of this PDF:
http://h200001.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/UCR/SupportManual/TPM_179764-001_ch4/TPM_179764-001_ch4.pdf

I want you to make sure SW1 switch 2 and 4 are OFF.

If the server still will not boot from the floppy, then set Switch 6 ON and power on the server. You should hear a beep indicating that the configuration have been wiped out. Set switch 6 back to OFF and try to boot with the floppy.

Any luck?

Enjoy!

Yes... SmartStart 5.50 is the very latest you can use on this server. Later versions will not work on the system.
You can set the system use Netware as the O/S and then do a manual install.

Robert:

Your server should have bios family P09... you can update the bios to November 2000 using this diskette:

Many THX for your help. Everything seems to be ok.

One Question left for the moment. What happend when I lost the "SmartStart Profile Diskette" and i would not have a backup of that? I seems to be a very important floppy disk to get the server working,......or not!?

Hi Robert,

The server profile diskette builder can be loaded from here.

http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/7453.html

Also, when you need them, the Proliant 3000 support files for Netware 6.5 can be downloaded from here.

Good luck,

Re: Proliant 3000 boot failure (Newbie Questioons)

My problem starts the same error message, I am able to go thru all the steps to get the OS installed but I still get the same message press F1 or F10

If I press F1 the operating system boots, machine works prefectly, only problem is on a remote reboot, someone has to press the F1 key any comments or suggestions welcome.

Thanks
