Proliant 3000 noise problem

Hi,
I know its an old server but is it possible in any way to quite one down.
The server is at the back of a training room and people are complaining about the noise.
The fans are the problem, its got 3 in total, 2 front mounted and one at the back.
These fans seem to run at full speed is this normal?
Its a standalone server case.

Regards,
Roger.

Re: Proliant 3000 noise problem

Hi Roger,

When we start server and server is working at normal operation is there any change in noiseor not. Which operating system on server. Which Proliant Support pack since the fan speed is managed by system driver.

Prashant S.

Re: Proliant 3000 noise problem

The noise/speed of the fans does not change from startup to normal operation.
The Server OS is windows 2000 sp4.

How do I find out what support pack is installed?

Re: Proliant 3000 noise problem

Hi,

Install Proliant support pack from
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/20_1112.html
for win 2k for proliant 3000

To confirm the installation of support pack on server do following :
START-->RUN-->REGEDIT-->HKEYLOCAL MACHINE-->SOFTWARE-->COMPAQ-->CPQINSTALL

Latest avaible is 7.00 A.

Installation of proliant support pack will resolve the issu.

Re: Proliant 3000 noise problem

Hi,

It's still noisy and no different, sorry to say.
Regedit still shows v6.40 under CPQ install.

Any suggestions?

Roger.

Re: Proliant 3000 noise problem

Hi,

I run this and it said it was already installed. I continued anyway and rebooted, but the fans are still running fast.

Are there any settings anywhere to slow them down?

Roger.

Re: Proliant 3000 noise problem

Hello ROger,

I am not real sure about the Proliant 3000, and what the difference is between this and the Proliant ML 370. With the ML370, there is a startup CD that has a driver that can be loaded to the system during the initial bootup. This driver took the fan noise level down about 10 decibals... a HUGE difference!!

Hope this helps
