Proliant 3000 with SmartArray 3200 failure

I have what seems to be a failed controller card. I get the following on POST - Error:
Slot 3 Compaq Smart Array 3200 Controller
1783- Slot 3 Array Controller Failure !
[Command failure (cmd=11h, err=0BEh)]
. I have no problem replacing the card, however my question is what will happen to my array? I have some data on it that does not have a reliable backup, so if possible, I would like to replace the controller without reinitializing the array and losing all data. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Justin:

Since you have a Smart Array Controller to begin with... you should be able to just replace the controller with a new one. When the server boots up, the controlelr should detect an existing configuration since it is stored on the drives themselves, recreate the config on the controller and boot up like normal.

The only issue you might run into is if you put in a newer model controller and have older drivers. The system may come up if the driver is new enough to support the controller, but there is a chance it won't be.

As for the data, you should not lose anything as your array will stay intact.
