Proliant 5000: 2003 Installation Problems

I have had a go and creating that on the drive. Its not happening as i cant get to a screen to even run fdisk.
I have just put the Server 2003 disc in the drive and it loaded and started to install the installation files.
Then it says at the botton, WINDOWS SETUP IS NOW STARTING nad thats as far as i get. Its been on that screen for a hour now and its going no where.
Any ideas

Re: Proliant 5000: 2003 Installation Problems

Hi Paul,

You should upgrade to the latest Server RomPAQs and Firmware for all Array controllers (If any are present).

In the days of Proliant 5000 there were no RBSU for the Array controllers, so Smartstart whatever version is needed to create the bootable drive

Ok mate that sounds good.

I knowthis sound a little thick but how do i upgrade to get started.
Server stuff is new to me, its a learning thing at the moment but once i get the hang of the basics it will be fine

Paul:

Here's the link to the latest drivers, etc.

http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/20_1109.html

Most of the downloads will include instructions. Do the BIOS and firmware(s), then retry the install.

Re: Proliant 5000: 2003 Installation Problems

hi,

I installed windows 2003 on a proliant 5500 a few weeks ago. Started with Smart Start 5.5 as the newer version is not supported or recognize. After the firmware and array (if any) is updated, install win2003. Do take note of the network adapter as win2003 may not recognize the card in your proliant 5000.

please refer to the attachment for more info.

regards.

Re: Proliant 5000: 2003 Installation Problems

Paul:

First you should update the BIOS (unless you're confident it's already v4.03A. This is the link for the download (and it will create a bootable floppy disk):

http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/7548.html

Next, download the appropriate firmware(s) beginning here:

http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/20_1109.html#52

Each firmware download (once 'exploded') should contain instructions regarding installation.

Once BIOS and all pertinent firmwares are installed, you should be able to install Windows Server 2003. It may be necessary to press F6 early in the installation process to create an opportunity to install any newer storage controller driver.

Immediately after a successful install, you should install the latest Proliant Support Pack (6.40A) from here:

http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/20_1109.html#0

This is just an overview of the process. Do not assume that it precludes/excludes any of the suggestions other people have made above.
