Proliant 5000 CDROM driver for Linux
Attempting a fresh install of RH 7.3... One of the initial screens says 'What type of CDROM do you have?' I select SCSI. Then RH attempts to use one of the 4 available drivers for scsi cdroms to no avail. So, I'd like to find a driver that I can install manually. I've searched high and low for this driver with no luck. I have found a DOS driver for CRD-254V which is what I *think* is in this machine but I'm not sure... Any ideas?

Re: Proliant 5000 CDROM driver for Linux
Hi Marc,
I am not a Linux expert but I also found a dos driver at the following URL: http://www.compaq.com/support/files/server/us/locate/8_1109.html: sp10751 (ms dos scsi support) under the 5000. In it you will find the DOS version that will work on the 5000 (scsi) it did work for me, but obviously its not Linux its dos. Hope this will help.

Re: Proliant 5000 CDROM driver for Linux
Marc, I had similar problems and ended up using the NFS install as I had other machines available on the network that I loaded up the RPMS from the CDROMS. If you don't have that option (NFS install) then try choosing the NCR CDROM driver. At the boot prompt specify
linux dd (any other parameters)
where dd is disk drivers, you may need to create a floppy from the images directory, it may be the drvblock.img. Looking at the /var/log/dmesg file on my 7.2 machine I see the following information recorded:
ncr53c8xx: at PCI bus 2, device 10, function 0
ncr53c8xx: 53c825 detected
ncr53c825-0: rev 0x2 on pci bus 2 device 10 function 0 irq 10
ncr53c825-0: ID 7, Fast-10, Parity Checking
ncr53c825-0: restart (scsi reset).
scsi0 : ncr53c8xx - version 3.3b
Vendor: COMPAQ Model: CRD-254V Rev: 1.06
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Good luck
