Proliant 5500

Is this the correct forum to post my question?

I picked up a Proliant 5500 from UW Swap, in Madison, WI. It came with no drives, so I added three 9.1 drives. I am trying to run Smart Start 5.3, from the cdrom but it won't boot from the cdrom. The config utility shows the correct boot sequence, however it does not show the cdrom in the device list. I have replaced the cdrom and cable with known good devices. Still no cdrom boot. I have installed a PCI IDE card whice the config utility sees, but still no cdrom boot. I have verified that all board switches are properly set. I have applied the erase utility and re-flashed the bios. Does anyone have any ideas for my to try? Thanks for any help offered.

Re: Proliant 5500

Hi Bruce,

I'm afraid that your IDE on-board controller may be faulty. your server will not boot from additional PCI IDE controller, you must have to boot from on-board IDE. you can make & use configuration & setup floppies and try to make changes through them.

Re: Proliant 5500

I have done all of that. I downloaded a system config utility ver 2.53 and ran it from floppies. Atleast it shows the cdrom, twice, even though I only have one cdrom installed.
