Re: Proliant 6000 Memory Upgrade Problem
Are you sure you have the 4 X 256Mb dimm option?
Memory should be able to be added to either memory card (4 dimms at a time per bank) but the fact that you only see a total of 512Mb makes me wonder if you have the right kit.
(See below)
ProLiant 6000 Pentium II and III Xeon Memory Option Kits
Following are memory DIMMs options available from Compaq for ProLiant 6000 400/450/500MHz:
50ns EDO
1024-MB Memory Expansion Kit (4 x 256-MB buffered EDO DIMMs, 50ns) 328583-B21
512-MB Memory Expansion Kit (4 x 128-MB buffered EDO DIMMs, 50ns) 328582-B21
256-MB Memory Expansion Kit (4 x 64-MB buffered EDO DIMMs, 50ns) 328581-B21
60ns EDO
1024-MB Memory Expansion Kit (4 x 256-MB buffered EDO DIMMs, 60ns) 241774-B21
512-MB Memory Expansion Kit (4 x 128-MB buffered EDO DIMMs, 60ns) 241773-B21
256-MB Memory Expansion Kit (4 x 64-MB buffered EDO DIMMs, 60ns) 241772-B21
128-MB Memory Expansion Kit (4 x 32-MB buffered EDO DIMMs, 60ns) 241771-B21
64-MB Memory Expansion Kit (4 x 16-MB buffered EDO DIMMs, 60ns) 241770-B21
Note: Up to 8-GB total memory is available with 2 cards. Each card has 4 slots per bank, per memory card, for a total of 16 slots. Memory can be added to any bank on either card. Memory must be added in banks of four DIMMs. Charts do not represent all possible configurations. Mixing of 50ns and 60ns memory is permitted; however, each bank of 4 DIMMs must contain the same size and speed DIMMs. Performance will default to the slower of the two speeds (that is, 60ns).
Can you report back the information on the sticky labels of the memory dimms themselves so that the information can be confirmed.
Thanks
Brian.

Re: Proliant 6000 Memory Upgrade Problem
I don't want to keep on about it but there is a lot of counterfeit memory out there for Compaq systems.
Can you provide all the information on any of the various labels attached to the memory and the actual memory chip numbers if possible.
Some of the memory kits were also sold as pairs and both dimms would be marked with the total capacity of the pair rather than individually, which lead to confusion for engineers and customers alike.
Regards,
Brian.
