Proliant 6400 and new disks

I am trying to install a new scsi disk in a 6400 so that i can rebuild the machine from scratch. The new disk is not recognized so i assume i have to run smart start and the array utility to configure the array. Unfortunately i cannot get the machine to boot to any version of smart start i have here (5.40 and above) and there is no option to run the scsi utilty on boot. How can i configure the array??

What model of server are you trying to configure?

If you have a CD-RW, you can burn an ISO of SmartStart 7.xx which can help you config the array.

Its a Proliant 6400 and it doesnt seem to recognize any smart start cd i place in the drive. I am pretty sure the cdrom is ok.

Hmmm... I will not boot from the CD?

have you tried any other bootable media to test the CD drive?

You could attach a CD-ROM from a workstation to see if the CD-ROM will still not boot.

Will it boot from a floppy?

If it will boot from the floppy, you can use the system erase utility to wipe any bios configs that are keeping the CD from boot. Here is the diskette:

The SmartStart 5.40 is a good CD version for the ProLiant 6400, so it is just a matter of getting it to boot the CD. Once it boots, you can re-build the box.
