Proliant 6500 BIOS password?

Is it possible to set a BIOS password on a Proliant 6500 server? I go into the "BIOS" through hitting F10 during boot and I don't see anything in there for this option. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Proliant 6500 BIOS password?

Hi Chris,

Yes it is possible on G1 systems as follows: -

First make sure that the system maintenance switchpack on the system board does not have switch 5 in the on position(Password Disable). Check with the cover diagram for the location of this switchpack.

Now go back into the BIOS using F10 as before and at the menu screen.....
Select "System Configuration"
Select "Configure Hardware"
Once the configuration files have loaded
Select "Review or modify hardware settings"
Select "View or Edit Details"
Go down to the Passwords field
Select "Set Power-on Password"
Enter your chosen password and you will be prompted to confirm.
Also Set the Administrator password (override) if required.
Press F10 then Save and Exit.

On the next boot - after device checks and before boot you will see a blue screen with a key and padlock symbol. Enter your password at this screen to continue.

Please note: - This is OK for security if required but remember that if your system reboots for any reason the password is required. So if it crashes on a Friday night and reboots it will be at the password screen on Monday morning - Not Ideal. To disable the password set switch 5 on the maintenance switchpack.

I hope this helps.
