Proliant 6500 Multiple Processors

I have an older Proliant 6500 server. It's a quad PPro 200 system. I have the 4 procs installed but only one is being recognized by the system at bootup.

I replaced the procs with 4 tested working procs and the same scenario resulted. The only thing left I can think of is either Compaq has a special utility to make the server recognize the processors or the VRM's have gone bad and need replaced. I have purchased new VRM's and am awaiting their arrival but wanted to know if there is a utility from Compaq that I maybe have not found and tried yet.

Strange we are not getting any error information and server is also booting

Update the bios of the server and check again.

Excuse my ignorance but I should have posted the errors.

On boot up I get the following information:

Processor Slot 9, Processor 1 Initialized at 200/66Mhz with 512KB Cache
212 - Processor Slot 9, Processor 2 Failed
212 - Processor Slot 10, Processor 1 Failed
212 - Processor Slot 10, Processor 2 Failed

Slot 1 Compaq SMART-2DH Array Controller (rev C, v4.50) 2 Logical Drives
1784 Slot 1 Drive Array Failure

The following SCSI drive(s) should be replaced:
SCSI port 1: SCSI IDs 4.6

Scanning for SCSI devices ... No SCSI Devices Detected

Press "F1" key to continue
"F10" key to run system partition utilities

A couple of oddities I find here are that it is detecting 2 logical drives but I only have 4 9.1gig drives setup raid 5 and it says no SCSI devices detected when in fact, I believe, my cdrom is a SCSI cdrom.

Apart from the memory test (1GB) there is nothing else on the screen and when I press F1 to continue it boots Redhat 9 normally.

Any help on these problems would be greatly appreciated and I'll check those links out today.

Again you'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge.

What exactly are you wanting to know? The processors I replaced were PPro 200's with 512KB of cache and I replaced them with 4 matched procs of the same configuration. The processors I replaced were in there when we acquired the machine which leads to me to believe they were the original procs that came with the server. When we got it it had 2 working procs and about a week later it went down to one. Some time after that it wouldn't find any of them and not boot. I bought the 4 new procs and replaced the old ones and now I am back to 1 working proc.

From your last post on this matter, it seems the VRMs or the processor board itself gone bad ( because processors gone bad one by one in past on this board). One more thing is, have you checked all the past processors or new ones for thier proper functioning by putting them on the working slot?(slot 9, processor 1).

check all the processors or VRMs by putting them one by one in the working slot, which will give you a proper scenario about your problem.

can we try this.

Run RBSU - Advanced Options or SCU - Configure Hardware and set the failed CPU as corrected or repaired

1) Run RBSU - Advanced Options or SCU - Configure Hardware and set the failed CPU as corrected or repaired
2) Clear NV-RAM

1.Power up server.
2. Go to DCU (Default Configuration Utility) via F9 or SCU via F10.
3. Select Advanced Options from menu
4. Select Set CPU Corrected
5.Exit utility

That seemed to have worked. All 4 processors are working now. I guess the state of the failed processors was kept stored somewhere. I have had many experiences with configuring these server and now I have learned something else that I didn't know.
