Proliant 6500 with THREE processors?

Hi there,

I have exactly the same problem as this guy [1] - interlocks do not seem to be indicated on my machine (it just died one day with a kernel oops) and following the troubleshooting guide I end up at "check for VRM faults; VRM, processor and terminator seating".

I've removed & reseated each of the processors & VRMs, but no no avail, so I'd like to test to see whether one of the processors/VRMs has died.

I have managed to find someone locally who has some suitable spares lying around, but he has only one processor-slot blanking plate.

My 6500 has 4 Pentium II processors fitted presently. If I remove the faulty one & replace it with the blanking plate, should a 6500 function with 3 processors?

I had imagined that SYMMETRIC multi-proccesing would require 2 or 4 processors to be fitted to this machine. One might work, but probably not 3? My acquaintance doesn't know, either.

Ned.

It should work with three. They run with one! Hope you locate the issue.
Good Luck

My circumstances have changed a little, and I have posted a question which I think now to be more relevant:
