Proliant 800 Fan Failure

Fellas,

I've got an old Compaq Proliant 800 standalone server that is in the process of being replaced, however the fan died today and it will no longer boot.

I replaced the fan with a 3 wire 120mm fan from best buy, which seems to work just fine, but it does not have the functionality to tell the BIOS that it is up and running.

Is there *any* way to disable the fan dection from the BIOS or jumpers/dip switches??

I want the thing to boot for just awhile longer so we can migrate our data to the new server.

Thanks,
Mike
The network is the computer, yeah I stole it from Sun, so what?

Re: Proliant 800 Fan Failure

Mike,

I think you can take the 92mm I/O fan and use it (TEMPORARILY)in place of the 120mm CPU fan.

I don't think the I/O fan "spin detect" causes a system shutdown so it can live without it while you recover what you need to.

I hope this helps.

Brian
