Re: Proliant 800 / Will 110958-032 work?
My Proliant 800 is a 6/550 CSG1.
First of all, most guides say I need part #317749-001, which, as near as I can figure is a 256MB PC100 ECC Registered CL2 3.3v DIMM. It just so happens that part #110958-032 is apparently the same thing, only can be found for much less money ($25 / piece as opposed to $50 / piece).
I actually have some 110958-032 pieces laying around, but if they work or not is questionable. I have no way to test them, and I have a reason to believe they may be bad. When I attempt to use them in the Proliant it won't POST, however, if I add in a 317745-001 (64MB chip), the machine will post, but then displays memory protection errors when trying to boot into smart start.
I am at my wits end with this machine. I don't understand why RAM with identical specs won't work. I am stuck buying more expensive RAM or is there something wrong with the 110958-032 pieces I have?
Thanks for you help!

SolutionThe 110958-032 is a 128 Megabit 256Mb dimm used in Proliant 8000, 8500 ML570 and DL580 and maybe some more. It is entirely unsuitable for the Proliant 800 with PIII CPU's.
I replied to a question on memory similar to yours recently for the Proliant 800 and included all the option (Sales) and spare (Service) part numbers in this reply. Please see the following link.

I hope this helps,
Brian

Re: Proliant 800 / Will 110958-032 work?
In any case, I see from your link that parts 313616-B21 and 317749-001 would be appropriate, but I have also seen parts 480093-001 and 306432-002 listed as suitable as well. Part surfer hasn't been much help, before I spend $100, I'd like to know if these alternate parts will work. Thanks.

Re: Proliant 800 / Will 110958-032 work?
I own a 3000r and all of the parts including the system were purchased on eBay.
I know you can find what your looking for and good luck.

Re: Proliant 800 / Will 110958-032 work?
Just to clarify.
The 480093-001 part is an assembly number, only ever seen on the memory dimms themselves and is put there by the manufacturing plant involved.
To buy an additional similar dimm you would use an option part number and for repairs by Compaq/HP the attending engineer would use a spare part number for a service call. I know its confusing but 480093-001 (assembly), 313616-B21 (option) and 317749-001 are all the same thing.
I'm not sure about 306432-002 as I've seen it quoted as a 512Mb kit (2 X 256) and on a single dimm so don't go for that one.
Regards,
Brian

Re: Proliant 800 / Will 110958-032 work?
You are very welcome to any information I can provide. You will often find that regardless of your query there will normally be someone else on the IT forum who can help, particularly with older Proliants. There is a wealth of knowledge shared on the various forums from customers, resellers and Compaq/HP personnel.
If you need any documentation for the Proliant 800 PII/PIII models, such as service manuals etc. you will find them here.

For current drivers and controller firmware use the following links.

NT4

For any other operating system (Linux, Netware, SCO etc) use the following link, choose "Proliant 800" from the drop-down box and choose your corresponding operating system.
If you need anything else drop me an e-mail at brian.murdoch@hp.com
Best of luck with the upgrades.

Re: Proliant 800 / Will 110958-032 work?
I forgot to add the generic driver link in my previous e-mail.
Choose "Proliant 800" from the drop-down list on this link and then choose the corresponiding operating system for the driver and firmware available for that O/S.
