Proliant 8500 and USB 2.0 PCI Card Install

I have installed Keyspan PCI USB 2.0 cards on two PL 6400R with success. Prior to installation I upgraded the BIOS and firmware.

I also installed a Lava USB 2.0 card on a PL 1850R with success.

I have had trouble with installation of either card on a PL 8500.

The Lava card simply is not recognized and the Keyspan card is recognized but as soon as I copy any information to the attached external drive, I received a BSOD with the following error message:

Stop: 0x0000000A, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x8046de3b
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Address:8046DE3B base at 8040000
Datestamp 3ee650cd - ntoskrnl.exe

This error usually indicates a bad driver, IRQ conflict, bad RAM or power issue.

I think it is a bad driver.

Can anyone suggest a stable USB 2.0 driver for the PL 8500?

Frank:

Do you have the USB card in Slot 10 or 11. Those are the faster PCI slots and may handle the Card better?

Slots 10 and 11 will not physically accept a PCI card. The card and slot are not similar.

Frank:

Then, your PCI Cards are 3.3v
I am pretty sure the PL8500 is a 5volt PCI.
Enjoy!

Re: Proliant 8500 and USB 2.0 PCI Card Install

John,

Thank you for your help.

To clarify:

The Keyspan USB 2.0 PCI card is key notched for both 5V and 3V use.

The Lava USB 2.0 PCI is 5V only.

Frank,

It is a 5V card.

I unscrewed the metal plates that cover the USB devices so I could fit both cards into slots 10 and 11 (66 mhz). The BIOS did not recognize that there was a card in the slot.

I think I need a stable 3V USB 2.0 driver. Does anyone know of a brand that has worked?

Re: Proliant 8500 and USB 2.0 PCI Card Install

I installed a BELKIN PCI USB 2.0/Firewire card. Plug and play was successful. Very stable device driver. No problems.
