Proliant 850R locked up after Smartstart 5.30 ROM update

This is my first 850R.
Dual PP200 256MB ram.

Booted fine and I used Smartstart to upgrade the ROM. After installation it starts to a blang screen with no attempt to access any drives. Used this procedure successfully with many other Proliant servers.

I tried searching for a previous post of this occurance but came up dry.

Hello Frank,
This usually occurs when the video driver gets corrupted. Reboot your server in safe mode and uninstall any remote access software i.e. PCANYWHERE(if you have installed on the server though). Reapply the video driver from the following link:

http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/17769.html

You can always install the remote access software thereafter.

It's a bare system with no OS and unformatted drives. I was preparing it for installation and setup. I cant access any of the drives at all. Very unusual.
I have 4 other Proliants (2500's & 5k's)going at the moment with no problem

Hello Frank,
From the sounds of this it seems like something is not sitting in properly. Just pull out the Smart Array controller and reseat it. Or try to install the controller in a different slot even. Also while at it please check for the bent or damaged cable pins. There is no reason for the HDDs to be not seen.
Also check for any loose components in the system as well please.
