Proliant BL10e Blade Server

Looking for supporting document to why I should purchase a management blade, and what options I get with it.

Re: Proliant BL10e Blade Server

Calling presales put me in a constant phone loop.

I am looking for specific white papers; on the pro's of using a management blade and what other options (hardware/software), I should invest in to get the optimal performance from this blade server. My plan is to run 20 Windows 2000 servers in various roles.

Here's the link to blade whitepapers, user documentation, etc. There is a planning white paper that you might find helpful.

Re: Proliant BL10e Blade Server

Oops - that one was for P-Class blades. Here's one for E-Class blades:

Re: Proliant BL10e Blade Server

The blade server currently has the RJ-45 Patch Panel (with 40 RJ-45 connectors), this panel can be configured for intergrated administration?

Re: Proliant BL10e Blade Server

The "Integrated Administrator" is present on all versions of the "connectivity tray" in the cabinet: the patch panel (simple feed-through of all RJ-45 connections--two for each blade plus 1 for IA), the "aggregated patch panel" (pass through of all of the blade ports but aggregated into RJ-21 connectors to reduce the physical connections, and 1 RJ-45 for the IA). and the switch (2 RJ-45 Gbe uplink ports for each side of the switch plus 1 RJ-45 100BaseT for IA). Both options also have a serial port for connection directly to the IA.

Using the Integrated Administrator provides the following capabilities:

- web browser UI or command-line UI (for SSH, telnet or serial connection)
- "cabinet" management - thermals, power, etc
- virtual power - switching blades on/off, rebooting remotely
- virtual serial console - especially useful for Linux CLI administration, HP also offers a module to provide a cool CLI for W2K, and also accesses EMS for WS03

The Integrated Administrator user guide can be found at http://h18013.www1.hp.com/products/servers/proliant-bl/e-class/integrated-admin.html
