Re: Proliant D380 G4 - SmartArray 6i
Do you have the internal SCSI backplane duplexed? If so, you cannot use the enternal VHDCI connection for "anything" as both channels of the 6i are in use.
Is this not the case?

Re: Proliant D380 G4 - SmartArray 6i
The embedded 6i controller supports external tape drives as I repaired a DL380G4 with external Ultrium 460 yesterday and checked this out first. This system was running Windows 2003 however.
Can you confirm that you are using the latest Unified Raid driver for Netware 5.1

If you still have problems I suspect the answer lies with this area.
Regards,
Brian

Re: Proliant D380 G4 - SmartArray 6i
I'm in the same problem.
A DL380 G4 with embedded 6i controller in simplex mode.
I've attached the ultrium 960 to the external port but cannot find a way to use the channel 1 for the tape and channel 2 for the drives
Can anyone help with it ?
thanks

Re: Proliant D380 G4 - SmartArray 6i
In practice we always recommend our customers to use additionally internal SCSI controller without RAID functionality for any backup device. Embeded SA6i cause many problems with some backup software.
